Experience
I am a current student at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and there I am pursuing my master's degree in Public Health. I am a recent graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, and I just finished defending my Microbiology Ph.D. thesis there. I have extensive experience as a tutor and teaching assistant. I enjoyed the two years I spent as a teaching assistant for a graduate molecular mechanisms of infectious disease biology class, because it really helped me hone my teaching skills, and I greatly enjoyed being a role model for other students. I have additional teaching experience as a volunteer for a program called the Science Education Academy, which is designed to help elementary school students in inner cities learn scientific methods. I volunteered for this program for four years. During this time, I mainly worked with a small group of 4th graders one day each weekend, and I enjoyed interacting with these students and playing a role in helping them learn to enjoy science. I hope I encouraged many of them to want to learn more about science and one day maybe enter a career in the field. As a new Boston resident, I am pursuing local opportunities to work with students in the classroom, but I would like to also use my teaching skills to tutor students one-on-one. I am a great tutor due to the extensive knowledge I have accumulated during my studies, my experiences working with students of all ages, and my natural skill in helping people understand complex ideas by breaking them down into more-easily understandable and memorable steps.
